Take a photo or a video

  • Open Camera. At the top is the name of the group the photo goes to.
  • Tap the shutter to take a photo. In an unlocked group, hold it to film. The video stops by itself after 30 seconds, and if you leave the camera while you film, the app deletes the clip.
  • In a group that is not unlocked, the camera only takes photos, and it does not use the microphone.
  • The Format button switches between 4:5, 1:1, 5:4 and Full, which fills the screen. The phone remembers the choice. 4:5 is the first choice.
  • You can switch between the front and back camera.
  • The camera asks for access to your library to show your newest photo on the “Choose from photos” button.

Choose from your library

Tap “Choose from photos” in the camera. The app supports photos in JPEG, PNG, HEIC and HEIF, and videos in MP4, M4V and MOV. On Android, HEIC and HEIF need Android 9 or newer. Other files, such as WebP, GIF, 3GP and WebM, do not work. The video can last up to 30 seconds and be up to 200 MB, and the group must be unlocked.

Add text and choose how long the photo stays

  • With “Add text” you can write up to 200 characters on the photo. Choose white, black or yellow text, and whether it is left, center or right. Then drag the text up or down. “Edit text” and “Remove text” work until you share the photo, and “Change photo” takes you back to the camera.
  • Under “Keep this photo for” you choose 2 days, 5 days or “Forever”. 2 days is the first choice. You cannot change it after the photo is shared.
  • Tap “Post to” the group. A photo goes to one group, and only that group can see it.

What happens when you share

  1. The app saves the photo again as a JPEG without details about the location, the phone and more in the file. The longest side is at most 4096 pixels. A video is saved again without such details, but the picture and the sound stay as they were.
  2. The app also makes a small copy for the widgets and notifications. For a photo the copy is at most 600 pixels, and for a video it is a still.
  3. The files go straight to our storage at Google Cloud. If you lose the connection and try again, you do not get 2 copies of the photo.
  4. The others in the group get a notification, and the photo is at the top of Home.

The uploaded file can be up to 25 MB for a photo and 200 MB for a video. If you upload a very large amount in an hour or a day, the app asks you to wait.

See the photos on Home

  • The newest is at the top. The app gets 20 photos at a time, and more as you scroll. Pull down to get new ones.
  • Each photo shows who posted it and when, and how long until we delete it, for example “1 day left” or “Forever”.
  • A video starts without sound and plays again and again. Tap “Tap for sound” to hear it. It stops when it no longer shows on the screen.
  • If the app has been closed for 5 minutes, it gets the photos again.
  • Under “Your photos” on Profile you see the photos you posted, but only those among the 20 newest in each group.

Like, comment and save

In an unlocked group, you can do this:

  • Like. Tap the heart, and tap again to undo. Under the photo it says who likes it, for example “Granddad and Jonas like this”.
  • Comments. A comment can have up to 2000 characters, and the oldest is first. You cannot edit or delete a comment. It goes away when the photo is deleted, or when you delete your account.
  • Save. “Save” puts the file in Photos on your phone, without the text and the crop from skokk. For that, the app only asks for access to add photos. The button does not show in simple mode.

Keep track of new photos

When at least 60 % of a photo has been on the screen, the app counts it as seen. This sets the number of new photos in the widgets and in simple mode. The others in the group do not see what you have seen.
