# What do the notifications and widgets show?

A notification shows the name of the group and who posted a photo or a video, but never the photo itself. A widget shows the newest photo from one group, or how many new photos are waiting.

## Turn on notifications

Go to Profile, and tap Notifications under Settings. The phone asks whether you allow notifications. If you said no, or want to turn them off, use the settings of the phone.

## What a notification says

| | Title | Text |
|---|---|---|
| Someone posted a photo | The name of the group | “Kari Nordmann la ut et bilde” (posted a photo) |
| Someone posted a video | The name of the group | “Kari Nordmann la ut en video” (posted a video) |
| Someone joined through your invite | The name of the group | “Kari Nordmann ble med i gruppen.” (joined the group) |

- The texts are in Norwegian. You get no notification about your own photos.
- If you tap the notification or a widget, the app opens the group.
- The notification also has data for the widgets: the name of the group, the first name of the person who posted, and a link to the small copy of the photo. The link stops working after 15 minutes.
- Notifications go through Apple to iPhone and iPad, and through Firebase Cloud Messaging from Google to Android.
- If you leave the group, you get no more notifications from it. If a photo is deleted before the notification is sent, we do not send it.

## See which widgets you can choose

| | Shows | Sizes |
|---|---|---|
| Latest photo | The newest photo from someone else in the group. The widget shows the first name of the person who shared it, and when it was shared. A video shows as a still. | On iPhone you choose small, medium or large, and on iPad also extra large. On Android you can resize it. |
| New photos | How many new photos are waiting, for example “3 new photos in The family”. | Small. On iPhone also on the lock screen. |

- Each widget shows one group that you choose, and at most one photo. Your own photos do not show. If you leave the group, the widget shows the first of your other groups.
- On the lock screen the widget shows only text, never a photo.
- The widgets on iPhone and iPad need iOS 17.

## How the widgets stay up to date

- When a new photo comes, the notification updates the widgets.
- Otherwise the widgets ask for the newest photo about every 20 minutes on iPhone and iPad, and every 30 minutes on Android when the phone is online. The phone decides when it happens.
- When the time for a photo is up, or the photo is deleted, it goes away from the widget.
- If you leave a group, it goes away from the widgets. If you sign out, they show “Sign in to skokk”. If you have no groups, they show “Open skokk”.

## What the widget can access

On iPhone and iPad the widgets can only get the newest photo in your groups. That access stops working when you sign out on the phone. On Android the app gets the photos in the background with your sign-in, and counts new photos among the 20 newest in the group. The widget keeps a small copy of the photo on the phone, and on iPhone and iPad the copy is locked when the phone is locked. If the widget asks for photos too often, it must wait a little.
